We have spent almost two weeks learning about energy resources in class. Using your
background knowledge of these resources please write a comment answering the following question.
Imagine you live in an area that has access to all nine types of energy studied in class. If you were in charge of choosing the energy resource used by a city in the area, which energy resource would you select? Please explain why. In your explanation of why, include two specific pieces of evidence to support your selection and one specific piece of evidence that is an admission of a negative for this type of energy.
In my opinion, the best energy resource would be wind. I chose wind because it isn't expensive, so more wind towers could be created which allows for more energy. Another reason this would be good is because it produces a VERY low carbon footprint, which is good for the environment. A downfall to this type of energy is that there aren't very many wind tower fields already in the U.S., so it would cost more than if there were quite a bit already built. This is my reasoning for why wind would be the best way to power a city.
ReplyDeleteIf I could pick one energy source to be in Blakeville I would choose wind power. I would choose wind power because there is not pollution involved with the wind power and the wind power is very efficient. Wind produces a lot of energy so you could also store some energy in power banks. Also wind is not very expensive.
ReplyDeleteTo me the best energy source should be wind. Then we would always have electricity to power the city because there will always be energy. If we don't have wind then we will use the electricity stored in the the little power house that stores the extra electricity. And even in a storm we will still have electricity because there is always wind in a storm. And the higher you go up there is always wind. And the turbines make almost no pollution so the air would be fresher. The turbines also require almost be care to maintanence them. So that is why I think blakeville should use wind to power the city.
ReplyDeleteIf i lived in a place that had all of the resources, I would choose solar. The reason I would choose solar is because without it there would be so many things we would not be able to do without it. With solar we can watch television, we can heat food, we can get warm from the sun rays, and it produces electricity. We need the food, we need entertainment from television, and we definitely need heat to get warm. Solar energy has so many things to offer us.

If I was going to pick a new energy source for a town I would pick nuclear. Nuclear has one of the lowest impacts on the environment . It creates almost no pollution because it is made of atoms creating steam. Nuclear is also very easy to mine. It is all over the world and can easily be transported. The only downside to using nuclear is if not handled correctly it can become dangerous. Luckily nuclear can be kept safe which is why I would pick it to power a town.
ReplyDeleteI would pick Solar as my town energy because of a few reasons. My first reason is that it is a renewable source of energy. It is renewable because the sun’s rays never run out. There is no pollution with this source of energy. On cloudy days the extra energy from other days is used so there is no risk of having no energy on certain days. The solar panels can last for a very long time too. The only bad thing about is that it is very expensive. Otherwise it is a great source of energy.
ReplyDeleteHydropower would be my choice of energy because it has the least amount of disadvantages. The energy resource is renewable so the energy is infinite. This is great because I don’t need to go back and get more resources. The resource doesn’t produce Co2, so it is good for the atmosphere. Co2 is one of the causes of pollution in the air. One of the bad things about this energy source is that it costs some money to build a dam. It could cost more than a little money to build one.
ReplyDeleteIf I was able to pick a energy resource I would pick wind. I would pick wind because it is very easy to find all you have to do is build a wind turbine. It also just takes oxygen from the air. One thing bad about wind power is that the wind turbines take up some room.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to choose between the 9 different energy types to use in my town, I would choose wind. I would choose wind because it is a renewable resource. Wind is renewable because you can make wind turbines any time. Wind turbines don’t cost a lot of money and are easily installed. Wind turbines do take up space, but last a long time. On the downside, if the weather doesn't cooperate, and there isn't any wind, it won’t work. Despite that, I would choose wind for being renewable, less money, and fits all my needs.
ReplyDeleteIf I could pick a recourse of electricity for where I live I would use Bio fuels. I would use Bio fuels because It Is a renewable energy, The reason it is renewable because it runs on dead plants and animals. Another good reason is because it is not hard to get the materials. You could just go out side in your garden and harvest a crop that could be changed into energy! However there is a con. That con is that it has to use meany crops and it takes land but we could make room for this. That is the energy that I would pick!
ReplyDeleteIf I were in charge of city I would chose wind. Wind is one of the sources that does not cost a lot of money to power it it just costs money to build the turbine. Wind also has a very small carbon footprint. Also, many turbines can power a whole city. One disadvantage is that the wind farms take up a lot space. That can be bad because if the city is so big. They need a lot of wind farms to give power.

If I were to be any type of energy resource I would be Petroleum. The reason why I would be petroleum because it is much cheaper than any other resources. This may create pollution but it does not take up that much space. Last but not least it wont cost that much. These are the reasons why I choose Petroleum.
ReplyDeleteDear Mrs. Blake,
ReplyDeleteIf I was living where all nine types of energy were available. I would choose to be in charge of, it would be Natural Gas because you can use it in many different uses. For example, in your homes. Also, Natural Gas uses very many raw materials. The disadvantage is it can be dangerous if not handled right. This is the energy resource I would choose.
Love,
Emma Smith
If I could pick the energy resource to use in a city, I would use Natural gas. I would use natural gas because it's a clean burning fuel. It is used in our daily life, like cooking, heating up water, and powering our homes. Also, there is a lot of the fuel on Earth. All the building that are around the location would be able to get energy for homes.
ReplyDeleteI would choose wind, solar, and geothermal because they're some of the most safe cleanest ways to make energy available. They have one of the most smallest carbon footprint and is very safe because if a nuclear silo broke down it can release deadly chemicals and if a dame brakes it can release tons of water on innocent people or if theirs a natural gas line broken it can release tons of deadly gas everywhere but wind, solar, and geothermal dont have as bad dangers
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot about energy resources over the past weeks. Although each source has its own pros and cons, one stands out to me as the best choice. The energy source I would use to power a city would be hydropower. For one thing, hydropower is a renewable energy source. As long as rivers continue to flow, hydro would continue to provide electricity. This energy source also does not release carbon dioxide into the air because it does not involve burning things. However, this source requires taking water from important reservoirs. This is only a minor drawback from an otherwise amazing source of energy.

ReplyDeleteThe energy resource that I would choose is coal. My first reason to pick coal is that it causes little pollution. My second reason to pick coal is that coal doesn’t run out. The bad thing about coal is that you can’t renew it.
If I could choose an energy source for my town, I would choose hydropower. I would choose hydropower because it is a renewable resource and clean. Hydropower is renewable because it uses the water cycle to renew itself, or be used again. There is no pollution in hydropower, as it is all clean energy being used to generate electricity. Yet, hydropower is a disadvantage because there is not a lot of places to be able to access the water and space is limited to install a hydroelectric dam. I would choose hydropower because it’s renewable, produces clean energy, no pollution and uses the water cycle to generate electricity to power cities and towns.

If I got to choose what energy resource was used in a city I would choose wind energy. I would choose wind energy because the wind is almost always blowing which turns the windmill creating energy. you would be able to get a lot of energy from this especially if you have many windmills. Another reason why I would choose wind is the windmills and prevent themselves from breaking. this could save you a lot of money because you would not have to pay to get it fixed or to get a new one. One of the only bad things about wind energy is it takes up a lot of space. Wind energy would not be a bad choice for electricity as you can see.
ReplyDeleteIf I could choose an energy source for the city I would choose hydropower. I would choose hydropower because hydropower is good for the earth and does not give off any bad gasses that could harm the people in the city. Another reason I would choose hydropower is because it only needs water to produce energy and water is everywhere so we could have energy anytime and we would have it have energy day and night. One reason we probably shouldn't have hydropower is because it uses a lot of water and when you build a dam it can harm wildlife.
ReplyDeleteThe one energy source i would choose for blake vill would be solar power. It is a renewable energy source and it can hold a charge for a long time. Better yet even when it is cloudy it still works.
ReplyDeleteIf I had access to every energy source I would choice Geothermal. First Geothermal is an infinite resource. This would be helpful because I wouldn't need to spend my money on buying resources over and over again because this would be expensive. Next it is cheap. Geothermal energy is only $30,000 for ten years and over these ten years this would be incredibly cheap. There is one incredibly bad side to having this energy source. If there was a leek hydrogen sulfide would go downwind and if the wind was going toward my town than it would get into my town and possibly suffocate the people.
ReplyDeleteIf I were in charge of choosing the energy resource used by a city in the area, I would choose geothermal energy for a few reasons. One reason is that geothermal energy is an energy source that runs 24/7 and is renewable. The Earth’s core continuously producing heat and it is not affected by weather. Another reason is because it is clean. It does not affect animals or plants nearby. It also reduces the emission in the air. Besides these two great advantages there are few disadvantages. For example, Geothermal energy is only found where Earth’s large oceanic and crustal plates collide and slide beneath another called a subduction zone. This means geothermal energy can only be used in areas where geothermal energy is active. I would choose geothermal energy as an energy source for a city for these reasons.
ReplyDeleteThe energy resource that I would pick would be wind. Wind would be the best because wind turbines/wind farms can power the whole city with electricity. Power for the whole city is important because then there is only one source of electricity for the city. That means less pollution from the other factories that creates electricity. Also, wind is renewable. Once you build the wind turbines then you have infinite wind and that will be a very productive company. The disadvantage is that is causes some pollution. During the process of building the turbines pollution is being set into the air. Even though there are a couple disadvantages to wind there are many more advantages than disadvantages.
ReplyDeleteIf I had to choose a energy resource to use that is in my area, it would be geothermal energy. Two good things about geothermal energy is that there is no pollution to harm the living organisms around the city. It also doesn't need much to get the energy. All you need is water to heat up to create steam which will power the city. But the disadvantage about geothermal energy is that you need to be closer to the edge of the ocean to get the water/steam. That is why I would use geothermal energy.
ReplyDeleteAfter spending two weeks studying about energy resources I think Hydropower is a good selection for an energy resource. I think this because Hydropower is a clean and renewable way of getting energy. One negative side of Hydropower is it requires a significant natural water source. Even so, many places have the access to natural water.

ReplyDeleteDear Mrs. Blake,
I think nuclear power would be the best source of energy for the place I would live. Nuclear energy is a clean energy source produced from uranium ores that are mined from the ground. The energy is created when atoms of the uranium ore U-235 are split. The split then releases high amounts of energy. This energy can be used for many things including heating, fuel, electricity, and power for devices. However plentiful nuclear energy is now, it needs a lot of space to create that large amount of energy for the public use and even more space to store nuclear waste. However, the good about nuclear power outnumbers the bad and that is why I would choose it as power for where I lived.
From,
Liam
The energy resource I would choose is hydropower. I would choose hydropower because it isn’t bad for the environment. It also just uses water from our reservoirs. Even though it may take water from our reservoirs that we need. I absolutely think it is the right choice. Those are the reasons I think hydropower would work best.

If I were to choose a energy resource it would be hydropower.I would choose hydropower because it is renewable doesn't pollute. It also runs on water then the water goes back to the river ,dam or resivore.
ReplyDeleteThe energy resource i would choose is solar because it doesn't cause pollution. I would also choose solar because it doesn't take up space and it is safe for the environment.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to choose a energy resource it would be Hydropower. I would choose it because it is renewable and a clean resource. It runs on water so it is very easy to get.
ReplyDeleteIt uses water from reservoirs, dams, and it goes back to the place that they got it from.
